Editorial Director Davida Hall and Barbra Horowitz hosting LA Fashion Week
We get excited when Shopflick finds its way into the hearts, minds, and conversations of our favorite fashion bloggers!
Recently Barbra Horowitz (British Vogue, author, Closet Control) posted a brilliant article on The Battalion’s School Boy Blazer from Shopflick. (Coincidentally, Shopflick sat front row with Barbra at The Battalion show at BoxEight.)
Barbra gave us some serious kuddos: “Oh how I love Shopflick.com. Not only are they bringing you the lowdown on indy fashion via video posts, the shopflick team is covering LA fashion week too. There are some really bright lights in LA Fashion but without cool sites like Shopflick, you would never know.”
And, the feeling is mutual, Barbi, we love you too and your wildly entertaining blog So You Think You Have Nothing To Wear. http://barbrahorowitz.blogspot.com. From retail therapy to recessionista shopping tips, the BH blog has all your feel-good fashion 411.
Now you can sign up for a free virtual styling session with the stylist herself and if you’re lucky you may just win a consultation that will CHANGE YOUR LIFE. LA Fashion Week A/W 2009
Published by Davida on Mar 18th, 2009
Shopflick had VIP, front row access to the hottest tick in town this weekend: LA Fashion Week A/W 2009. GenArt kicked off the show with a lineup of starlets including Grai, Society for Rational Dress and our favorite Top 9 of ‘09 Designer: Raquel Allegra. The catwalks pumped out tons and tons of black, layers upon layers, and the slouchy, silky trousers ala 1990’s but with an updated, modern fit. The weekend festivities continued at the historic Los Angeles Theatre for incredible lineup of BoxEight shows.
I interviewed the founder himself, Peter Gurnz, and asked him about his breakout designers predictions. (Stay tuned for the big reveal on the Hall of Style). Celebs, stylists, designers (we ran into the Naven twins!) and Hollywood A-listers meshed with everyday Angelenos in celebration of Los Angeles ingenuity at its very best.
My personal picks for the weekend: a hot mini skirt overlay ensemble from Yotam, an edgy faux fur vest from our Battalion sisters, and beautiful shades of splatterpaint-blue jackets and vests from Maxine Dillon. Check out some of our most favorite red carpet moments…

Jane Doe John Doe Boutique Opening
Published by Davida on Dec 17th, 2008
Former Los Angeles women’s boutique Jane Doe got hitched last Wednesday. Among the changes that will confront patrons of the hip, emerging designer friendly warehouse are: the new moniker Jane Doe/John Doe, menswear, and the addition of several lines from Project Runway alumni. Jerrell Scott and Korto Momolu, of Bravo fame, were there to oversee the nuptials, and host the reception party.
I had the pleasure of speaking to Jerrell, now co-owner with designer Ani Lee, and Korto about the revamped store. Aside from some signature sassiness from both (Jerrell: “You can rock a bag until the handle breaks, you know what I’m saying?” and Korto: “You can eat burgers and wear my clothes.”), they made impassioned statements about the boutique’s amazing hidden treasures.
This is what Jerrell had to say: “It’s really a showcase of the smaller designer in general. I went through and hand-selected all of the designers that we’re featuring here and there is an artistic quality to all of their work. They’ve all put in so much inspiration into all of their pieces. It’s a showcase of all things beautiful, unique, and interesting. Even if you don’t come here to buy a piece, just come here and look and you’ll come away and be inspired. In all of the pieces here, it’s all about the artist.”
Korto, wearing a stretch jersey bandeau dress of her own design, added, “If you go mainstream, you can compromise yourself as a designer. In a boutique, you can be yourself. And if people love you and love what you do, they come and get what’s truly you.”
Jane Doe/John Doe will also feature the lines of Stella Barbarella and 4th season winner Leanne Marshall, among other up and coming designers. Highlights, as given by Jerrell: Micha Kuechenhoff’s jewelry line and particularly “this necklace/wallet chain/purse adornment with a key on it that I REALLY LOVE” and also “every piece by Korto who really brought it. She brought down the house. The dresses are stunning and the bags are extraordinary.”
When pegged to choose a favorite, though, Jerrell admitted, “honestly, it would be crazy for me to choose just one thing because I feel an attachment to them all.”

Margaret Maldonado: The Woman Behind the Women Behind the Stars
Published by Davida on Nov 17th, 2008
Hollywood takes its cues from what the hot red carpet celebs are wearing. Stalking them day and nite paparazzi stop at nothing to capture a solitary frame of Christina Aguilera in her newest Louboutin stilettos or Nicole Richie’s Balenciaga flavor of the month. Until recently, rarely did anybody bother to find out who the masterminds are behind these billion-dollar celebrity personas? The magic word is STYLISTS.

These image-makers can make or break a celebrity it-girl, helping to catapult a girl-next-door into the girl-everyone-wants-to-dress-like: the Olsen twins, Angelina Jolie, and JLo. Coincidently, all these names can be found on the Margaret Maldonado Agency (MMA) client roster. Maldonado’s latest venture is the launch of clothing line L’Agence (translation: The Agency)–a unique collaboration in which her talented stylists will each guest-design part of the collection, working hand in hand with designers that will help to execute their vision. Ever looked for that perfect-fitting basic tee? Or craved a sick pair of japanese-influenced leather slipper-slides? Stylists Simone Harouche, pictured at left (Christina Aguilera, Nicole Richie) and sisters Maryam and Marjan Malakpour (Heidi Klum, Victoria Beckham, Courtney Cox) are just a few of the iconic style-makers that pitched in so that you can find that perfect fashion staple.
And if that weren’t enough fashion fabulosity from Ms. Maldonado, the 43-year old entrepreneur has just also launched Fashionrules!– a fashion trivia board game that doubles as a chic coffee table book perfect for any stylish home. What could be more fun than inviting the girls over for a Sex In The City inspired evening of champagne and Carrie trivia?
Look out for more great things from Miss Maldonado and her team of stylists. Shopflick will keep tabs on these rising stars, and the star celebs they outfit.
Psst: There is talks of an upcoming reality series based on Maldonado’s Melrose Place fashion agency. Watch out Rachel Zoe!
Danny Seo Brings You Eco Chic Sleep
Published by Davida on Nov 14th, 2008

Believe it or not, even fabulous fashion parties can get old. To change it up, and bring attention to a topic near and dear to everybody’s heart, I come bearing news of Danny Seo’s latest green adventure: a foray into the eco-friendly sleep world. At LA’s designer furniture hub, HD Buttercup, Environmental Lifestyle Expert DANNY SEO showcased his new eco-friendly mattress line, Natural Care. Afterall, as Danny says, we spend 1/3 of our lives sleeping, so why not make it as comfortable and healthy an experience as possible!
With this innovative Simmons partnership Danny has given us all another reason to want to hop in bed. Minus the guilty feeling. Replacing the landfill-prone mattresses of yesteryear, Danny’s line melds cutting edge design with earth-friendly materials. (After all Danny was born on Earth Day.) The Green Guru uses latex derived from rubber tree sap (a naturally microbial substance) so you can kiss away dust mites, mold and mildew, and usher in a new era of eco-chic sleep. Check out Danny’s blog to read eco tips from the foremost export on green-ifying your home.
Headgear: Fall’s Must-Have Accessory
Published by Davida on Nov 5th, 2008
Headgear is not only practical for fall and winter, but a must-have for any girl who is truly dialed in. Forget antiquated notions of old millinery caps—this season’s picks are not plucked from your grandmother’s closet. From French-inspired berets to flapper-era feather adornments, the head accessory of the moment is versatile and varied with a distinctly modern approach.
Here are some of our favorite looks fresh off the runways.
Shopflick Editorial Director, Davida Hall talks with Genlux editor and stylist George Bloodwell while sporting her favorite French beret.
At the Lauren Conrad fashion show models flaunt the uptown cocktail cap, a perfect Carrie Bradshaw accessory for a night on the town.
At Viridis Luxe, the classic newsboy cap was still goin’ strong. Check out our updated version: the conductor cap.
At trendy Venice lounge The Other Room we spotted stylista Michelle Lynch showcasing her new feathered friend. We found you the look for less with a hint more color in peacock.
The classic fedora is always an option. Grab one from your boyfriend’s closet or get one to call your own. Add flowers and feathers and go DIY.
Get creative with this crystal plumage hair clip. We love this side swept look with a strong focal point: the bigger the better.
The low-slung headband. Famous for launching this trend, LC shows us how it’s done. Leather, braided rope, and metallic headbands are my personal fave. Shop the look here.
Shopflick’s First Ever Shoot Day
Published by Davida on Nov 3rd, 2008

Shopflick hosted its first-ever Shoot Day in downtown Los Angeles last week to bring designers and sellers together under one roof for an entire day of fashion frenzy. The SF Glam Team team worked hard getting its superstar models Katie and Shah perfectly prepped for their catwalk pirouettes and hand modeling techniques. These girls were naturals.
Behind the cameras, SF Studios Director Raul G. and SF Studios Manager Chris P. captured every brilliant moment–including our tiniest model, a miniature dog that wouldn’t stop barking! The designers were greeted with standard Shopflick fare: a flute of champagne to get the early morning started off right and the exciting opportunity to finally tell their story– lights, camera, action style. We had a lineup from handbag designers and dressmakers to handmade semi-precious stone jewelry and bikini cover-ups. CAA-backed perfumer-entrepreneur Safi Fragrance had a moment in the spotlight as well.
Check out some of our favorite behind-the-scenes highlights. Oh, and contact us at justin@shopflick.com if you want to be put on the wait list for our next downtown Shoot Day extravaganza.

The Spectacle Of It All: What’s Really On The L.A. Fashion Runways?
Published by Davida on Oct 29th, 2008
Non-Angelinos have time and time again slighted us for being below the fashion curve. While the Los Angeles design community may be trailing its cutting-edge counterparts in New York, Milan and London the truth is, we really know how to put on a good show.
With a Hollywood-infused big-budget blockbuster mentality, the LA catwalks spend a pretty penny to get their point across. The opening acts were especially impressive. Christian Audigier’s namesake collection had a few highlights. Two British soldiers stood guard in full regalia as spectators filed in. Next, a parade of dancers rushed the runway. We had everything from the scantily clad midriff-baring women to the band of child hipsters strutting their dance moves. From giant waving American flags, to Great Danes on the catwalk, to violin players and live DJS, there was never a dull moment. In his characteristic showmanship, Audigier closed the show with a downpour of confetti (and even a smooch for Heidi Klum). His Ed Hardy show followed suit with flashing neon strobe lights, shutter shade-clad models, blaring techno music and again, the adorable street-kids that had everyone cheering from their seats.
In a different take on spectacle, across the tents Caroline D’ Amore, actress and Paris Hilton gal pal, shows us nearly nude Amazonian women in her debut line of itsy bitsy beachwear. The bikini barrage was an event loved by all, especially the male audience members in attendance. There are however other options for designers who want to make that lasting statement. Julia Clancey proved you don’t have to bare all to make a point. Clancey opened her collection with a more serious, striking note: a breathtaking British opera star belts it out in her jeweled ivory Clancey kimono. Truly exquisite.
All in all, the caliber of fashion and the high voltage production value made me proud to be part of the LA fashion scene. LA fashion is evolving, energetic, and eco-friendly-trend-setters in our own right. Plus, how many fashion shows in Paris or London have Disney superstar Miley Cyrus front stage and center?

What to Wear for your Debut Fashion Show Moment…
Published by Davida on Oct 27th, 2008
Rule #1: Leave all the rules behind.
Even if you think to yourself, like every woman does, “I have nothing to wear,” it apparently really doesn’t matter when it comes to getting dressed for your debut fashion moment at LA Fashion Week. If you have nothing, make something. Just the way this year’s attendees did. Get crafty, a bit adventurous, and think outside the box if you want to make this year’s style standout list.
We trend-spotted everything from the most casual laissez faire looks to the overly wrought, over-the-top style stories. Publicists, agents, photographers, editors and the general public all cohabitating under one roof (actually, it was a tent) provided for some great people watching. Costumed Harajuku girls, Silverlake sirens and pompadour punks all blended seamlessly in a sea of equal opportunity fashion madness.
